Notes from the most recent Sheriff's Community meeting

Thanks again for all of our street coordinators and members who attend these community meetings, it's great for us to keep the sheriff's department aware of our concerns. Special thanks to Olivia for providing the following abbreviated notes. If you have any other additional comments to add from this meeting, please let me know so I can be sure to post them :)

Issues that were brought up:
1. Transients along marconi and fair oaks, neighbor pointed out that new construction wider sidewalks has made it attractive for transients. They are aware of issue.
2. Young kids hanging around school (not sure what school not in our neighborhood)
3. Transients along creek located in the open lot (manzanita and winding way) I asked the officer if they were aware of transients staying along creek, he said they were aware that they've been receiving several calls for that location and they been out there to check...appears that their checking regularly. Property owner has been made aware of the issue. He said to keep calling they check the voice mail regularly. The officer also mentioned that they found human waste near creek. we need to call every time we see someone there and we will need to coordinate with fish and wildlife I believe they are responsible for waterways.
4. Drug activity next to Barrett middle school, neighborhood watch group and school officials are working with sheriffs office to address nuisance. 2 officers went to check out house during meeting
5. Traffic issues along Barrett road--neighborhood watch group working to find out what can be done
6. Big lots shopping area observed for criminal activity
7. Officer Dennis is very familiar with our neighborhood---great to hear. Patrolling jan Park more frequently
8. Looking for volunteers to help with the new service center located on Madison and Dewey.
9. We are being heard :)
10. Officer Dennis gave statistics for crime reduction in Carmichael but there was confusion regarding the stats.
11. What I got from the entire meeting is that by attending these sheriffs meetings our neighborhood has a voice. Officer Dennis is really good at writing a concern and following through.
