Come meet your POP Deputy and hear what is occurring in your area.

What is POP   Community Policing is called Problem Oriented Policing,  or POP.  Our POP Team handles quality of life issues as well as picking up all the other areas that patrol deputies don’t regularly get to do.

Crime Prevention works with POP in educating the public about preventing the crime, reporting, awareness of suspicious activities and persons and hardening the target.  Another program is SCIP – Sheriff’s Community Impact Program. It’s a two sided approach, with board members and is a not for profit foundation. SCIP has the good caring side that helps the youngsters that are involved with family gang life style and mentors them and that have the hard punching side that goes after and arrests adults involved in gang activity.  We also have PAL –Police Activities League that is a youth crime prevention program that through athletics creates a trust between cops and kids.   We also have Explorers, who are young want to be cops that work with a deputy as well as a Sheriff’s Youth Leadership Academy which has a vision of changing the after school culture and provides those interested in the law about law enforcement careers and the legal and social consequences of making poor decisions.

They gather up (through intelligence) all the complaints about marijuana grows and go with Code Enforcement for a week checking those locations.  They put together all outstanding warrants in a specific area and attempt to pick up those felons.  They get intel on illegal gaming operations and hold businesses accountable under false business license information or misuse of management of illegal events at spaces where raves are held.  They investigate massage parlors, when citizens and other acquired intelligence has told us are that they are providing sex to customers.  POP Deputies work under cover on known prostitution strolls to arrest the johns and the prostitutes. They work on problem properties such as hotels and vacant abandoned houses, that handle a have a variety of ongoing problems. POP Deputies take issues from citizens at community meetings regarding on-going continuing problems in their neighborhoods.

How it works
The Sheriff's Department uses a third party company called TipSoft to collect tips and provide follow-up messages through their servers located in Canada. TipSoft does not track information on tipsters which makes this service completely anonymous. If you would like a detective to contact you back directly, you can provide your name and phone number. After submitting a tip, you can click here to follow-up on an existing tip. To report a crime in progress, call 911, do not use any of these features to reports crimes in progress.

1. Online Tip Form
You can use our secure online tip form to submit your tip anonymously online. The online tip form allows you to provide tip information and attach a photo. When submitting a tip online, you have the option of selecting a password to retrieve secure and anonymous 2-way messages from investigators and to follow-up on the status of your tip. Using your password, you can also login and provide additional information and photos for investigators. Click here to follow-up on an existing tip. If you would like a detective to contact you back directly, you can provide your name and phone number.

2. Smartphone Apps 

If you have an iPhone or Android smartphone, you can download the free TipSubmit phone app from the iTunes Store or the Android Marketplace. The smartphone apps allow you to submit a tip, attach photos and video clips stored on your phone, track the status of your tip and receive secure and anonymous 2-way messages from investigators. 3. Text-a-Tip*

You can also SMS text a tip to CRIMES (274637), use our keyword SSD and provide a tip. Text-a-tips messages can only contain 160 characters and will not accept photos or videos. Investigators will be able to SMS text you back through the TipSoft's anonymous SMS servers located in Canada. See how the anonymous SMS servers work.

Save the Date! Sheriff Community Meetings

The Sheriff’s Community meetings will be held in November on the below dates.

Sheriff’s POP Deputies will not be in attendance at the meetings during the first week of November.

Meetings for Arden, Arden Arcade, New Foothill Farms, North Highlands, Rio Linda, Elverta and Garden Highway will be attended by Sheriff patrol and staff to answer your concerns and questions.

Meetings that occur after the 1^st week in November will be attended by the POP Team.

In 2005 I started holding “Office Hours” at various venues around the Third District.  It is now an annual tradition with me setting up a table at selected community events where residents can drop by and talk about items of interest with no appointment necessary.
This coming Thursday night, July 19, I will be holding another “Office Hours” from 6-7 pmprior to the free Fair Oaks Thursday Night Concert in the Park.  Please feel free to stop by before the concert begins at 7 pm to talk about items of interest with no appointment necessary on a “first come basis.”
The concert will be held at Village Park, 4238 Main Street, featuring the John Skinner Band.  Before the show, I will have a table set up to visit with residents.
 “Office Hours” for 2014 began in March at the annual trout fishing derby held in Howe Park followed in April at the Carmichael Egg Hunt.  In addition to this month’s visit to Fair Oaks, I plan to hold other “Office Hours” at other venues and I will post those dates and locations on my webpage.

Lots of updates!

Greetings all and happy Memorial Day weekend!

I hope you all are out enjoying the neighborhood, and getting your summer rituals of barbeque, sitting poolside, gardening, and fun in the sun in full gear. Just wanted to pass on some recent notes from the last Sheriff's Community Meeting at Del Campo (thank you to everyone who goes to these meetings and make our presence known), a recent experience in Jan Park, give you some info on a family friendly day with the Sac Sheriff's Dept., and let you all know about a new way of keeping in touch that our local law enforcement use.

Jan Park Animal Control

Thursday morning a cat was attacked and most of it's insides eaten , then a skunk was spotted by the bathrooms in the same condition. We are not sure what happened to theses animals, but be aware when walking in park. If you see anything out of the ordinary call the non-emergency number  874-5115. Hopefully this a one time thing, but be careful especially around dark. 

Thank you to many of our street coordinators and active neighbors (including BHNA officers) for sharing this information.

I also wanted to let you know the Sheriff's Youth Services Unit is working
with the Carmichael Recreation and Park District to sponsor a summer
basketball program for 5th-8th grade students.  Details about this FREE

programs via morning announcements, on your Facebook page or other web-based
medium, etc.

Notes from the Sac Sheriff Community Meeting for May:

1.       New POP (public oriented policing) is : Rebecca Purdy  rpurdy@sacsheriff.com   Dennis Peyton has been assigned to the Antelope area

2.       Homeless issue discussed once again.  Bel Air parking lot, Safeway parking lot, Save Mart parking lot and others mentioned where the person(s) are disturbing the community residents while they are shopping.  The POP stated that effective June 15, 2014  there will be a new county ordinance regarding panhandling .  This activity will no longer be permitted and it will be a treated as a misdemeanor.

3.       County residents may no longer grow marijuana on their property effective June 15, 2014.

4.       Sacramento County Sheriff is requesting those homeowners with outdoor video systems to please register them with the Sheriff’s Department.  The video recordings could possibly be used to assist in capturing the perpetrator of a crime.

5.       Sacramento Sheriff joined Nextdoor (www.nextdoor.com) on May 15, 2014.  This is a private social network for neighborhoods to build safer and stronger communities.  This integration will enable the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department to communicate online with Sacramento neighborhoods.

Next Community Meeting will be on September 16^th, 6 pm at Del Campo H.S. library.

Creek Week is coming up!!

Isn't this sunshine just beautiful lately? I know Matt and I have been enjoying the yard and have had our hands in the gardening beds, digging and planting away. Creek Week is coming up on April 12th and it's a wonderful time for us to get out into the park, do some clean up (clearing weeds, picking up trash), and then head to Carmichael Park at noon for a wonderful BBQ and some fun activities for the kids. Let's meet at 9 a.m. at the service entrance to Jan Park, and get our small tributary of Arcade Creek all cleaned up for Creek Week 2014!

Bring gloves, a hat, water, and make sure to have some sunscreen on. We'll have a service table available for extra water and if anyone would like to share some snacks for all our great volunteers. We'd also appreciate anyone who can bring along some gardening tools (rakes, trowels, shovels) and we'll have large garbage bags available for collecting trash.

Thanks so much for helping keep our beautiful park clean and well taken care of!

Crime Report -12/2/2013 and Carmichael Park Master Plan Workshop Dates

Important Date! Sherrie Carhart Email Regarding a Town Hall Meeting at La Sierra

Sheriff Scott Jones will hold a “Town Hall Meeting” on Wednesday, November 20^th from 5-7 PM at the La Sierra Community Center, located at 5325 Engle Rd, Carmichael. 

Sheriff Jones will give an overview about the state of affairs in the Sheriff’s Department, including the budget, staffing, special ongoing projects, high-profile cases if applicable and other items of interest.

Attendees will have the opportunity to voice their concerns and ask questions regarding the Sheriff’s Department and the communities that we serve.
