Stalking Victim needs our support

Greetings friends,

We just want to let people know that there is a gentleman who has been harassing and stalking, off and on for years, a neighbor of ours, and she needs out help. Please keep on the look out for a white male in his late forties, six feet tall, lean build, with short dark hair. He drives a 1998 white Honda Civic, and may be lurking near Jan Drive and Valor Way. If you see this individual, please contact the authorities, let them know you are aware that this person has been reported for unwanted attention and stalking of a female neighbor, and that you have been asked to report his location.

Stalking is a dangerous and extremely scary crime that no one should take lightly. We really appreciate your help in communicating to the Sheriff's Department if you see this individual in the area, and wish comfort and safety to the victim. I'm also attaching the penal code information about stalking here and information about stalking and restraining orders if you think you might be in need of help. Hi neighbors,

Please give us a hand and keep our park clean, plus show the park district that we really care about our park and our neighborhood by showing up to help us out on September 13th. My husband and I will have a table out at the service entrance on Jan Drive with water, coffee to perk you up in the morning, and perhaps a little snack to keep us going. It's so important that we show up and make our presence known to CRPD-let them see how much we love Jan Park!

Recent calls to law enforcement that folks should know about are:

- Young adults setting off bottle rockets around 9:30 p.m. on 7/15-sheriff's helicopter responded
- Silver sedan with homeless gentleman frequenting the park for the last several months parking on Jan Drive and using the port-a-potty. Confirmed with vendor responsible for cleaning the port-a-potty possession of pornographic material on the man.
- One older caucasian man with white long beard, one african american younger (30's) man, and one red/brunette haired caucasian female in her 40's/50's riding bikes in park with lots of collected materials with them. Hostile and aggressive to visitors in the park and neighbors. Sheriff's Dept. responded, but group had left before they arrived.
- Bikes stolen from carport near park between 6-11 p.m. in the last 10 days.

Please please call the sheriff's dept. if you see or hear any suspicious behavior and many thanks to our active neighbors who make the difference in keeping our neighborhood safe.

Neighborhood recent break-in attempts reported

A house in front of Jan Park was targeted for a break in attempt in the middle of the day on 3/11/2014. Some sort of ramming device was used, but thankfully, the front door held. We've also had reports locally of a car break in on Lincoln near Stollwood at the beginning of this month.

Please make sure to report all activity like this, even attempts, to the Sac Sheriff's Dept. so they know what is going in the neighborhood, and watch out for your neighbors. We're all here together to work on safety and comfort in our homes :)

Junk trailer left near park-possible tenant/homeless encampment signs

Found this near the service entrance to Jan Park this morning and called 311 (it's a great resource by the way, please do be sure to use it!) to report dumping/possible homeless encampment nearby. The contact group who will be working to enforce this morning is the County Parking Enforcement at 916-606-2023.

Recent Vehicle Break-ins and After Hours Activity in Jan Park

Good morning all,

We just wanted to let you all know that unfortunately we had two vehicle break-ins on Marble Way on February 18th in the evening sometimes. Valuable items were stolen from the vehicles, and may have been why these cars were targeted. Please be very careful to not leave valuables in your cars, and as always, report any suspicious behaviors, sounds, etc to the non-emergency sheriff's number, of to 911 if a crime is in progress.

We also wanted to let everyone know that there have been a number of instances recently with young adults in the park after hours being loud, bringing alcohol and other substances into the park, graffitti and vandalism, and parking in front of neighbors homes to carry on these behaviors late at night. There has also been suspicious movements of cars with young adults transferring between cars and hand offs that look to be possible narcotics related activities toward the far northern corner of Jan Drive, near Slate and Ranger Way in the late afternoons. Please be aware of these activities, report anything out of the ordinary, and do make sure to remind your young adults in the home that the park is closed after dusk and neighbors do contact the Sheriff's Dept. for after hours entry.

If we all do our best to support each other, report suspicious activity, be aware and make it known that we are watching, criminals will take their interests elsewhere.

Very Important Information!! Postal Service truck broken into-items may be lost

Greetings neighbors,

We have had an unfortunate incident occur for our local Post Office mail carrier today, and unfortunately mail was stolen from the vehicle at around 11:45 a.m. today for our area. You will be receiving a notice in the mail regarding this crime from the U.S. Postal Service if your home was affected, but we would like to make sure everyone shares this information quickly and considers if they were expecting any checks, packages, or other mail that may have had personal information on it. The news we have received is that the items that were taken are considered "flats"-like magazines, leaflets, pamphlets, advertisements, etc., but, just as precaution, we would encourage everyone to:
-  take any necessary steps to secure your identity information, watch your bank accounts, credit cards, etc carefully for unauthorized usage
- contact any vendors you may have expected items from to see if they can give you tracking data, if the items do not arrive in the normal expected timeframe

The best way to stop this from occurring in the future folks is for everyone to keep their eyes out for suspicious behavior and please report any and all suspicious behavior! Do not be afraid to contact the non-emergency sheriff's number when a crime is not in progress or call 911 if it is. All suspicious behavior should be reported to the Sheriff's Dept. so they can help us protect our neighborhood friends and family, and give them the chance to do their job well.

What is Suspicious?

Anything that seems even slightly "out of place" or is occurring at an unusual time of day or night could be criminal activity. The following are some obvious things to watch for:

• A stranger entering your neighbor’s house when it is unoccupied;
• A scream heard anywhere might mean robbery or assault;
• Offers of merchandise at ridiculously low prices may mean stolen property;
• Anyone removing accessories, license plates, or gas from a vehicle should be reported;
• Anyone peering into parked vehicles may be looking for a vehicle to steal or for valuables left in the vehicle;
• Persons entering or leaving a place of business after hours;
• A sound of breaking glass or loud explosive noises could mean an accident, burglary or vandalism;
• Persons loitering around schools, parks and secluded areas could be sex offenders;
• Persons loitering in the neighborhood who do not live there; and
• Anyone forcing entry to, or tampering with a residence, business, or vehicle should be reported.

Things to Watch Out For That Are Not So Obvious:

• Strangers and solicitors
  Verify the employment of all solicitors, meter readers and repair personnel prior to allowing them entry into your home. This can be done by obtaining the employer’s number from the telephone book or by contacting directory assistance. Never take a telephone number offered by a suspicious person. Be suspicious of alleged delivery personnel with a wrong address or asking if someone lives there.
• Someone carrying property.
  If it’s at an unusual hour, unusual place, or if the property is not wrapped as if just purchased.
• Someone going door-to-door in your neighborhood.
  Watch for awhile. If after a few houses are visited, one or more persons tries a door to see if it is locked, looks into windows, or goes into a back or side yard, it could be a burglar. Call Elk Grove Police Department immediately; don’t wait for the person to leave.
• Traffic to and from a certain residence.
  It is not suspicious unless it occurs on a daily basis or very regular basis, especially during late or unusual hours.
• Any vehicle moving slowly and without lights, or following a course that appears aimless or repetitive in any location.
  Particularly in areas of schools, parks and playgrounds. Occupants may be looking for places to rob or burglarize, or they could be drug pushers or sex offenders.
• Parked vehicles containing one or more persons.
  If it is an unusual hour they could be lookouts for a burglary in progress.
• An abandoned vehicle parked on your block.
  May be a stolen vehicle.
• Continuous repair operations at non-business locations.
  It could mean stolen property is being stripped, repainted, or otherwise altered.
• Persons making a quick change of vehicles.
  
  May be attempting to elude the police or abandoning a stolen vehicle.
• One or more juveniles walking through the neighborhood looking into automobiles or backyards.

• Any person taking a shortcut through a backyard.

Car vandalism 12/28 on Jan Drive near park

Two tires of a car were slashed with a razor blade by a group of teenagers seen near house at around 8:30 p.m. Teens were followed into Jan Park, but not found. Please call suspicious behavior by anyone in the area in to the sheriff's department at 874-5115.

Call out for a Ranger Way street coordinator! Increase of incidents in area.

Greetings all!

Ranger Way has had a serious of reported incidents recently that are definitely cause for concern, and are an important sign that a neighborhood watch group would make a major difference on this street. Please share this open request with anyone you know who lives on Ranger Way and let them know the serious benefits to starting a neighborhood watch group, the great connections and increase in safety felt by those who have one and utilize it, and what a difference it makes to know that you are not alone. Let's do our best to network among our neighbors and help them out; let's find a street coordinator for Ranger Way!

Here are some of the incidents reported in the last three weeks:

9/18 at 1140 am,  Assistance needed for Apts on Rampart/Ranger for a fire

9/17  Ranger Wy Crime Scene Investigator for assault with a deadly weapon to two victims.

9/17  Ranger Wy.  Elderly female on line says that an intruder outside her house was throwing bricks at her windows.  Subject acting crazy..

Passerby’s on Onyx/Rampart said that the male is very crazy.  Unit responded at 642pm  and saw subject at Rampart/Marble and detained him.  Arrest made. Subject  caused damaged to house and car.  Suspect not known to victim.  Felony arrest. 

9/9  Ranger/ Rampart

Caller said that older male sitting on the corner, gry hair, lrg mustache, white shirt, tan shorts, has a clipboard and a cat.  Possible matches a desc of a subj who has been going into backyard looking people's houses.  

9/4  Ranger Wy.  Suspicous vehicle next to Jan Park.  Ford Ecoline Unoccupied RV/ Pad lock on outside of door.   1^st call, vehicle was cited as it was parked on the curb.  Not occupied.  2^ndcall, still all quiet, lights out, no answer after several attempts.  Deputy told caller that vehicle is legally parked and checked clear.  If vehicle is unmoved in 72 hrs, that it is citable at that time.

Remember to report all suspicious behavior and crimes in progress immediately to the sheriff's department. Contact your street coordinator after you have reported, so that we can share with the neighbors information to help everyone stay more alert and safe.

Missing pup seen in our area

The veterinary assistant from Blue Cross Pet Hospital has been going door-to-door tonight passing out fliers regarding the small lost dog in the attached flyer.  The owner was in the hospital and the dog got out when a family member was house sitting.  The reason they are concerned as there have been sightings in the last week behind Barrett school, on Maple Lane and Rustic and near O'Donnell Park.  His name is Tino and he is a miniature greyhound so PLEASE DO NOT CHASE.

Don't forget to get out to meet with the Sheriff's Dept. and our POP officer on September 17th at 6:00 p.m. at the Del Campo High School Library. All your questions and concerns can for our neighborhood and surrounding areas can be discussed there, and it's a great way to make a personal connection with our local law enforcement friends.

9/14/2013- It's our Adopt-A-Park Day! 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

We really need to get folks out to remember that cleaning up our park is a wonderful way for us to give back to our community and to keep our open space beautiful for everyone. Please come out Saturday morning and lend a helping hand for a few hours. I'll make sure to have some coffee, tea, and water available, and any donations would be much appreciated. The Carmichael Recreation and Parks District so appreciates our help in maintaining the park, and we rely on their support to respond to our needs when there are problems or concerns. Neighborhood Alert:

Just an FYI, last week on garbage/recycling day, one of the residents on Stoney Way had a large number of recyclables stolen from the bed of her pickup.  She estimated she had about $100 worth of cans in bags ready to take to the recycling center.  Someone took them either the night before or morning of garbage day.  No description of suspect(s).

Wildlife Alert:

The female deer we have seen throughout the summer in our area is still here, and was sighted on Lincoln Avenue a few nights ago. Please be extremely careful when driving at night!

Preventive Techniques

• The two most important ways to avoid a deer-vehicle collision are: slow down and SLOW DOWN. If you are driving through an area known for high deer populations, slow down and observe the speed limit. The more conservative you are with your speed, the more time you will have to brake if an animal darts into your path.
• Always wear a seatbelt. The most severe injuries in deer-vehicle collisions usually result from failure to use a seatbelt.
• Watch for the shine of eyes along the roadside and immediately begin to slow.
• Use your high beams whenever the road is free of oncoming traffic. This will increase your visibility and give you more time to react.
• Deer can become mesmerized by steady, bright lights so if you see one frozen on the road, slow down and flash your lights. Some experts recommend one long blast of the horn to scare them out of the road, as well. 
• Pay close attention to caution signs indicating deer or other large animals. These signs are specifically placed in high-traffic areas where road crossings are frequent. 
• If you're on a multi-lane road, drive in the center lane to give as much space to grazing deer as possible.

Encountering a Deer

• Never swerve to avoid a deer in the road. Swerving can confuse the deer on where to run. Swerving can also cause a head-on collision with oncoming vehicles, take you off the roadway into a tree or a ditch, and greatly increase the chances of serious injuries.
• Deer are unpredictable creatures, and one that is calmly standing by the side of the road may suddenly leap into the roadway without warning. Slowing down when you spot a deer is the best way to avoid a collision. However, if one does move into your path, maintain control and do your best to brake and give the deer time to get out of your way.
• Don't rely on hood whistles or other devices designed to scare off deer. These have not been proven to work.
• If you do collide with a deer (or large animal), call emergency services if injuries are involved, or the local police if no one is injured, but damage has been caused to your property or someone else's. Never touch an animal that is in the roadway. Report the incident to your insurance company as soon as possible.

Unlike that fictional driver from the car commercial, knowing what to do when you encounter a large animal on or near the roadway can be a life-saver. Keeping calm and driving smart improve your chances of avoiding a collision and staying safe on the road. Safe travels!

Neighbor Reports #2 and Crime Report - 8/22/2013

Greetings all,

We just wanted to share with you all a very important reminder to stay alert, be aware of your surroundings, and make sure to report ALL suspicious activity to the non-emergency Sheriff's number 916-874-5115 , CHP at 916-861-1300, and report any criminal activity in progress to 911 or the Sheriff's emergency line at 916-874-5111. Our Sheriff's Dept. has strongly encouraged all residents to place these numbers in their cell phones for easy access and use. Activity reported is how we get more presence of officers in our area, and prevent crimes from occurring. 

A few more incidents to report so that everyone can be aware of getting our voices heard and staying alert. Sharing information is one way to help us stay safe-thank you everyone for keeping each other informed.

Report #1: Suspicious People in our Neighborhood Casing Homes 

8/21/13 4:00 pm - 4:15 pm: I just finished talking to my neighbor about an incident that occurred today at 4:00 pm. She told me there was a white male about 6 feet tall, 50-60 yrs old wearing beige cargo shorts and a shade hat, with a peppered mustache, holding binoculars in both hands and scoping neighbor's house. He was across the street at my other neighbor's house and was looking into her back yard and scoping the front. When my neighbor's mother called her (my neighbor) the guy took off so my neighbor went to find him. She found him talking to a Gardner at the end of Marble Way. She asked him what he was doing at the house and he said he was checking gutters. He yelled out want to see my ID. My neighbor had her daughter in the back seat of her car so she left to avoid escalating the situation. She was going to call the non-emergency number but she didn't have the number programmed on her cell. Thank you for sharing. 

Suspect Description - white male about 6 feet tall, 50-60 yrs old wearing beige cargo shorts and a shade hat, with a peppered mustache, holding binoculars in both hands and scoping neighbor's house.

Report #2: Vehicle Stolen

8/20/13 On the 6000 block of Rampart Drive, a neighbor had their car stolen out of their drive way last night.

Report #5: Nuisance Abatement

We had a "homeless" group of adults living in the front yard of one of the houses on Rampart Drive (between Jan and Barrett) that had a big black dog that would go after walkers/runners and their dogs. They also parked a home made wooden "trailer" out on the street. Several neighbors in the area called Nuisance Abatement . After multiple attacks by the dog several concerned neighbors called the Sheriff. They are no longer living in the front yard and it is safe for the people who walk in Barrett Hills to walk on Rampart now. Would you please let the other neighborhood watch groups in our area know that it safe to resume their daily walks now? I think it is good that we are watching out after each other and our neighborhood now. Thanks.

Report #1: Deer Update:

It was reported at the end of last week that the fawn who was traveling with it's mother back and forth across Lincoln this summer was found dead on the side of the road, apparently hit by a car. This is a troubling report and does not mean the doe has moved on. Please slow down and be aware of our large mammal friends we are sharing our neighborhood with. We are likely to be enjoying their company for years to come.

Deer Safety: Tips for Avoiding a Collision

Like a scene straight out of a sports car commercial, you're driving along a winding road in the dead of night, the eerie glow from your headlights meeting the narrow asphalt, when suddenly, two green eyes flash in the darkness ahead – and a deer steps onto the roadway.

Unlike the television ad when the driver swerves wildly around the animal and then speeds off carelessly into the blackness, encountering a deer while you're on the road can be dangerous and scary. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), large animal-vehicle collisions resulted in an average of 187 fatalities in recent years.

So, what can you do to stay safe during deer season?

Read on to learn the latest statistics and a few tips for making your drive through deer country as safe as possible.

Deer Statistics

• Dawn and dusk are the times you are most likely to encounter deer along the roadside.
• Deer breeding season runs from October through early January, and during this time they are highly active and on the move. This is when deer-vehicle collisions are at their peak.
• Though deer may wander into suburban neighborhoods, they are most frequently found on the outskirts of town and in heavily wooded areas.
• As pack animals, deer almost never travel alone. If you see one deer, you can bet that there are others nearby.

Report #2: Recycling Thieves

8/21/13 Early a.m.- neighbor confronted couple who were rummaging through recycling bins on Rollingrock. The couple were described as black slender build male with short hair on a bicycle carrying a black garbage bag, and a white female with a ruddy complexion and brown curly shoulder length hair also on a bicycle with a baby compartment attached to the rear. 

Report #3: Casing Homes

8/20/13 8:15 a.m. - Suspicious behaving woman-shorter (5 ft 2 inches approximately), blonder hair in ponytail driving an older car- right rear hubcap missing and rear right small window missing-oxidized paint. Rang doorbell on Jan Drive holding a clipboard. Walked around to Rollingrock, then drove off down California followed directly by a newer white Toyota Tundra truck.

What You Can Do:

If you see these individuals, please call the Sheriff's non-emergency line. I know many people are reticent to call the Sheriff's Dept.. but they can't do anything to help us or increase presence in our area if they don't know the problems we are facing, and don't have calls recorded. People rummaging through garbage and recycling aren't just stealing money from the County, this is a very common way of compiling information to carry out identification fraud (one of the fastest growing crimes in the U.S.) Suspicious behavior like this can be a sign of someone casing a property to see what times people are in and out, determining if dogs are present or alarms are on the doors/windows, and planning for potential burglary events at a later date. We see reports of this sort of "scoping out" behavior after theft has occurred and want to make sure we report it early and consistently to law enforcement so we can stop the crimes before they happen. Neighborhood Alert= BB shot/sling shot driveby-broken car windows and teens in park after dark

Greetings all, Congratulations to our neighborhood groups that celebrated National Night Out this past Tuesday-what a great turnout for our first year participating! We had several officers from the Sacramento Sheriff's Dept. and the local CHP come out to celebrate with the community, and lots of good food and good chats. Thank you to everyone who made it out to show our support in keeping our streets safe!


 A recent occurrence on Thursday night/ Friday morning was reported to us on Jan Drive near the park, where a car window was broken by a BB gun. Please keep your lights on, report any suspicious activity, and keep an eye out for your neighbors.


 We also have a report tonight at 11:20 p.m. of teenagers in the park past open hours, congregating under the light attached to the flag pole. This is a common area for after hours activity and we see a consistent presence of graffiti on benches in this area. Please be aware and tell your family and friends that the park is closed after dusk, and all entry after hours will be reported to the Sheriff's Dept. Wishing you all a great night!

Fire in the park and Deer Sightings

Good morning all,

We just wanted to let everyone know that a brush fire had emergency response crews out here yesterday early evening around 6 p.m. Thanks to the quick and effective communication of neighbors in the area, firefighters were out to put out the flames quickly. The flames stayed low and burned slowly due to all the hard work our Park District crews and volunteers from around the neighborhood have done to keep the brush levels under control throughout the park, particularly around walkways, roadsides, and near the playground. We're so thankful for the help of our local fire crews, the Carmichael Recreation and Park District, and neighbors like you. As an added bonus, because the fire burned in such a controlled manner, look to this area next spring to see some spectacular wildflower blooms, since the native plants of the Sacramento Valley are well adapted to fire, and actually thrive best in spaces where the non-natives are removed through natural means like low temp brush fires.

As a serious reminder, please be very very careful with smoking in the park, and don't be afraid to let others know how easy it is for fires to start from a discarded cigarette. We're all responsible for the safety of our community, and fire is a serious danger we can learn more about how to prevent. We still have beautiful large mammal wildlife visitors in the park and are being asked by our local Fish and Wildlife officials to be very careful in maintaining our distance, keeping all dogs on a leash, and appreciating our local fauna by driving slowly in the area, and being mindful of their presence. A doe and her two fawns were recently spotted around noon off of Lincoln Ave. so please be very careful when driving through the neighborhood.

Neighborhood Alerts-Theft

We are passing two incidents along today from the Perrin Way area and Barrett Road area, respectively. Both have been reported to the Sheriff's Dept.:

"Some time last Sunday Evening (June 30) the back of my tundra was broken into and a box of items removed.  They opened the shell and grabbed a box near the back.  It only had bungees and ratchet straps in it but there was a lot of them.  I did not notice that the back end was open until I got to work and did not think much of it, until I looked in the back of my truck today and finally realized something was missing.  It was backed up to the side of our house near the bedroom.  I have multiple outside lights that are on but seemed to have no affect.  

A street coordinator fr  Barrett Rd. received a call from a neighbor saying someone came in through her side gate and got into her garage last night (July 7) sometime between 11 pm and 4 am.  They took belongings (CD's, wallet, keys..) but did not take the vehicles.  The family was inside the home so things could have been worse.  She thinks they may have been disturbed by someone/something.  Please everyone be aware, especially if you hear dogs barking, etc.  Investigate abnormal noises.

Keeping Up Appearances

This is part of our reports to Carmichael Recreation and Park, as well as other enforcement entities that help us enjoy our neighborhood and park. Keep calling in suspicious behavior and reporting vandalism to the Sheriff's Dept.
