SMUD warns of persons impersonating utility staff
Published: Friday, Sep. 6, 2013 - 10:21 am
The Sacramento Municipal Utility District is warning customers to be careful of individuals impersonating SMUD staff, following reports in Elk Grove.
Utility officials said the Elk Grove Police Department informed SMUD that residents in its jurisdiction reported men knocking on their doors and falsely identifying themselves as SMUD employees, needing access to their backyards.
Residents told police that the men said they needed to check access for future installation of power poles. One resident said one of the men tried to open the front door, but it was locked.
Officials said the public can verify a utility employee by calling SMUD at (916) 452-3211. SMUD also is asking customers to report any unusual activity in their neighborhoods.
SMUD said that field crews carry photo identification cards at all times, and many wear uniforms. Officials suggested that the public ask SMUD workers to show identification.
Call The Bee's Mark Glover, (916) 321-1184.
Volunteer Adopt-A-Park
Help us keep our parks clean and safe! Every year the district coordinates volunteer workdays for park residents to help out. Just a few hours of your time can make a HUGE difference in the parks. Projects include weeding, raking, trash pick-up, and other duties as needed.
Our next work day will be Saturday September 14 from 8:30-11:30am. If you are interested in doing clean up on another day please tracy@carmichaelpark.com or call (916) 485-5322×23.
Remember Jan Park friends, we need your help to keep our area beautiful! Please join us in the park this coming Saturday morning to help with the following agenda items Olivia and Jerry Epler from the Park District have worked out together to help deal with some of the concerns raised previously:
So what’s on the agenda?
· I am very excited about this clean-up day—I spoke to Jerry from Carmichael Recreation and Park District and I mentioned to him the issue with people spending the night at the park and hiding and leaving trash at the south end of the park. So our idea to address this on-going issue is to introduce a new trail at the south end of the park and trim non-Oak vegetation (mostly weeds). I would love to get as many volunteers to help with this project. We need all the help we can get.
· I enjoy taking my dog out for walks around the trails but I don’t enjoy the dog poop people’s dogs leave behind. I will take a few minutes to pick up the poop throughout the park. Any help is appreciated.
· Weeds near the children’s area needs clearing. We need volunteers please bring your kids to help out and enjoy the playground :)
· We need to pick up trash throughout the park.
· We also need help making sure we remove any tagging (writing) on tables or signs. We like our park beautiful and clean.
