Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know we've had some updates from the Jan Drive NW group on their first meet and greet and great news that their four signs went up today!

Also, we wanted to make sure to point out to everyone who uses Jan Park that there is a Park Watch Program in effect in keeping with the Sheriff's Dept, Crime Prevention methods (listed out by the National Crime Prevention Council) through Neighborhood Watch groups. Jan Drive NW has taken on the Park Watch and will continue to look for support from other NW groups adjacent to Jan Park as they are formed. Posts have already been installed by the Carmichael Park and Recreation District, and we are just waiting for the signs to arrive (they had to be reordered due to a vendor error) to get them up and visible.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Be our eyes and Ears and Report These Types of Activities When They Occur in Our Parks:

• Illegal or Suspicious Activity
• Criminal Mischief
• Hazardous Conditions

Please use the Park Watch Incidence Report Link on the left side of this blog after reporting any incidences so you can share with others what is going on in the park, and provide an ongoing list to CPRD about what is going on in the park that may require ranger attention.

What You Can Do To Protect Yourself and Your Home:

• The first step is to harden the target or make your home more difficult to enter. Remember, the burglar will simply bypass your home if it requires too much effort or requires more skill and tools than they possess.
• Be a good neighbor. Get to know your neighbors, communicate often, help each other out and establish trust. Developing good relationships with those around you helps make the whole neighborhood safer through active vigilant observation.
• Set up lighting interior and exterior on timers and/or motion detectors.  Exterior lighting needs to bright enough for you to see 100-feet and it helps if you can identify colors. Good lighting is definitely a deterrent to criminals because they don't want to be seen or identified.
• Alarm systems definitely have a place in a home security plan and are effective, if used properly. The reason why alarms systems deter burglaries is because they increase the potential and fear of being caught and arrested by the police. The deterrent value comes from the alarm company lawn sign and from the alarm decals on the windows.
• Be aware of suspicious activities or persons in your neighborhood and call law enforcement anytime something seems "off".  Keep important numbers on your refrigerator for easy use and stored in your cell phone if you have one, for easy use.

Bulletin # 131011-01 Incident

Barrett Road and Lincoln Avenue

Type Incident Suspicious Activity

Synopsis of Incident

An 11-year old male Barrett student reported he was followed by a man on his

way home from school yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at

approximately 3:08 P.M. The student noticed the man in his vehicle

on Barrett Road, where he began following him. The student continued

walking on Lincoln Avenue toward Miles Road. When the student crossed the

street and began running, the man left. Incident is awaiting follow up by law

enforcement.

Suspect Information:

Caucasian male adult in his 50’s, approximately 5’8” with gray hair and a dog

in the back of his vehicle.

Suspect Vehicle: Black truck with scratches on it.

Welcome and Contact List for Neighborhood Services

Thanks for stopping by our new blog! We'll do our best to keep current information here on our local neighborhood watch groups, and well as what is going on in the community (primarily safety oriented). Though we have not officially worked through the process of creating an "association",  it is definitely up for discussion in the future, once we make more progress on getting as many streets up and ready with their own Neighborhood Watch groups. For now, our focus is entirely on helping street coordinators plan, helping our neighbors find the tools available to them from the Sheriff's Dept., and working to take back our streets, one house at a time!

Here are our current neighborhood watch groups that are active or in progress:

Olivia Magana and Juliana Masters are our chief coordinators for the Lincoln/Barrett Hills area. If you live in this area or nearby, and are interested in learning more about Neighborhood Watch and how to get involved, please contact these wonderful ladies, or leave a comment here so we can get back to you.
