Successful Adopt-A-Day!

I just wanted to give my sincere thanks to all of you who showed up on Saturday morning to help do a lot of work in Jan Park, work that James Perry from CRPD very much appreciated. We had an excellent group of dedicated folks out willing to edge, leaf blow, rake, and hand pull weeds on a lovely morning, and with the help of one of our street coordinators, Tiffany, we even had a table with some wake up coffee and water available for participants. Although poor James was under the weather, he really made an effort to stick it out as long as he could, and was quick to share really what a difference our help makes to Park District staff, and how important it is that we take pride and show ownership of our park.

Thank you so much to everyone who was able to make it-you're what makes our neighborhood great!

Reminder for Adopt-A-Park Day Tomorrow!!

Sorry this is being posted so late, but I've been super busy this week as I'm sure all of you have! Just a quick reminder that we will be up bright and early for the CRPD's Adopt-A-Park Day at Jan Park from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. tomorrow, the 9th. Please wear sunscreen, a hat and gloves, and consider bringing your favorite garden tool as we clear weeds, and brush, in our lovely neighborhood park. Any help is appreciated and I'll have a table up (thanks to Tiffany!) with some coffee for the morning folks who need a little caffeine. Thanks so much for getting out and keeping our park beautiful!

Neighbor Alert

Reminder!

Jan Park closes at dusk. This includes for residents of this area.

We certainly can't ask our law enforcement officials to come out and respond to calls only for non-residents. I have now had two run-ins with a silver SUV with young adults from Stoney Way. They're very polite and I very much appreciate their manners, but parking at the park at night and entering or hanging out in the car is often times behavior seen in more suspicious activities. I have no doubt these young adults are doing nothing wrong and are just looking for somewhere to hang out, but the park closes at dusk and the Jan Park Watch members are alert to goings on in and around the park.

Thank you for understanding we are all dedicated to the message of Neighborhood Watch / Park Watch.

update: 3/11/13 3rd encounter with these individuals

8:08 p.m. Silver SUV car lic #5DNG784 asian male driver with one male passenger in their teens or early twenties. Passenger wearing a white plastic mask on face. Stoney Way speel again. Suspicious behavior level increasing with the repetition, parking in the same spot and seeming to be craning to look into neighbors front windows, and the mask. Will contact Sheriff immediately on next occasion.

Neighbor Alert-suspicious behavior

Reported from Jan Drive near the service entrance to the park:

3/4/2013

8:56 p.m.  Unfamiliar dark colored boxy SUV car lic # 6SAW649 parked with headlights on. When neighbor approached back of car to get plate number, car moved. Neighbor saw car had only moved 25 ft down the road and parked again. Sheriff's Dept. called for suspicious behavior report, on cell. Car moved again to Jan and California and parked again. Driver and passenger looked male, but lighting was very limited. Neighbor followed from far away and stayed on phone to  report strange behavior until officers were dispatched.

While this might not seem like a big deal, this is typical behavior to people who are casing homes, or taking part in inappropriate and potentially criminal behavior. If you witness suspicious behavior in your area, do not hesitate to contact the Sheriff's Dept. non-emergency number (unless a crime is in progress-if so, please call 911!), let them know you are part of neighborhood watch and identify your street, and make sure to give them as much detail as possible.

Stay alert, stay aware, and stay safe folks!

Neighbor Alert - Suspicious Behavior

Greetings everyone,

Just wanted to share an important post from one of our street coordinators regarding a suspicious encounter with a man in a gray toyota:

Hello Neighbors, I was sent an email by one of our neighborhood watch participants regarding a suspicious vehicle. A gray Toyota was parked outside their home near Rampart and Ranger near the apartments. . A man got out of the vehicle and was just staring at them. He didn't speak, or make a move.  Unfortunately we don't have a description of the man, but beware of a Gray Toyota that may be parked in our neighborhood.  If you see anything suspicious, don't hesitate to contact the sheriff's department. (Emergency 916-874-5111, non-emergency 916-874-5115).

Something I do want to make sure I point is how important it is for all of us who are recognizing and reporting criminal or suspicious behavior in our neighborhood that it is vital to  have as much detail as possible when reporting to the Sheriff's Dept. Knowing what type of car it is (make, model, year, license plate, distinguishing marks), what the suspect looks like (gender, approximate age, color of skin/hair, approximate height, what they are wearing),  time of day, and location are essential in helping law enforcement do what they can to help respond effectively to reports. A great way to keep track of this type of information for future needs, and to make your report as successful as possible, try keeping a notebook handy to keep notes in and perhaps tape a note to the front reminding yourself of what type of information can help make your efforts most useful.

Thank you everyone for keeping our neighborhood safe!!
